Soviet Helmet SSh-40
The SSh-40 (Stalnoy Shlem 1940) was the standard steel helmet issued to soldiers of the during World War II. Designed to replace the earlier SSh-36, it offered improved protection, a simple and durable design, and was suitable for mass production. The SSh-40 became a symbol of Soviet infantry, widely used on the Eastern Front from 1941 onward.
Its rounded shape and robust steel construction provided protection against shrapnel and battlefield hazards, making it reliable in harsh combat conditions, including the brutal winters of Russia. The helmet remained in service well into the Cold War, illustrating its lasting functional design.
